From 1849 it was located in the newly opened Museum an der Augustinergasse now the location of the Natural History Museum of Basel Natural History Museum and the Museum of Cultures Basel Museum of Cultures . In 1887 it moved into the Kunsthalle BaselBasel Kunsthalle , where a new wing known as the Skulpturenhalle had been built especially for it. The casts had to be warehoused in 1927 when the Kunstmuseum Basel national art collection was temporarily moved into the Kunsthalle, creating a need for more space. In 1940 the cast collection found a provisional home in a disused factory, four years after plans for a new building had failed to pass a referendum the new building finally materialised in 1963. The Sinfonieorchester Basel Symphony Orchestra Basel is a Swiss orchestra based in Basel . The orchestra performs symphony concerts at the Musiksaal, Basel. The orchestra also serves as the opera orchestra and ballet orchestra for the Theater Basel . The orchestra receives funding from the half cantons of Basel Stadt and Basel Landschaft . The orchestra was formed in 1997 from the merger of two prior ensembles, the Basler Sinfonie Orchester Basel Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Sinfonieorchester Basel Radio Symphony Orchestra Basel . The City Fathers of Basel attempted to protect their Jews but to no avail the local guild s demanded their blood and 600 were handed over. They were shackled inside a wooden barn on an island in the Rhine , which was set afire. The few survivors young orphans were forcibly converted to Christianity . Following the massacre, it was decreed that all Jews were banned from settling in the city of Basel for 200 years. However, the city s subsequent financial collapse necessitated their early re admittance. The Confession of Basel is one of the many statements of faith produced by the Protestant Reformation Reformation . It was put out in 1534 and must be distinguished from the First and Second Helvetic Confession s, its author being Oswald Myconius , who based it on a shorter confession promulgated by Oecolampadius , his predecessor in the church at Basel . Though it was an attempt to bring into line with the reforming party both those who still inclined to the old faith and the Anabaptist section, its publication provoked a good deal of controversy, especially on its statements concerning the Eucharist . The people of Strasbourg even reproached those of Basel with celebrating a Christless supper. Up to the year 1826 the Confession sometimes also known as the Confession of M hlhausen from its adoption by that town was publicly read from the pulpits of Basel on the Wednesday of Passion week in each year. In 1872 a resolution of the great council of the city practically annulled it.
