The newspaper traces itself to the Cattaraugus Republican , founded in 1867. It was originally published in Ellicottville, then moving to Little Valley before merging with a Salamanca newspaper to become the Salamanca Republican Press in the 1950s, eventually dropping the Republican name in the 1990s.
