  1. Western District, Upper Canada

    Western District was one of four districts of the Province of Quebec 1763 1791 Province of Quebec created in 1788 in the western reaches of the Montreal District and partitioned in 1791 to create the new colony of Upper Canada . Known as Hesse District until 1792, it was abolished in 1849. The district originally consisted of that part of Upper Canada west of a line running north from Long Point on Lake Erie , in the region now referred to as Southwestern Ontario . The district town was Sandwich , later renamed Windsor, Ontario Windsor . In 1798, the district was reorganized to consist of the counties of Essex County, Ontario Essex Kent County, Ontario Kent At the same time, parts of the district were separated to create a new London District, Upper Canada London District . In 1847, legislation was initiated to create a new Kent District however, facilities at the designated district town of Chatham, Ontario Chatham needed to be built. The creation of the new district was not completed. In 1849, the district was replaced by the United Counties of Essex and Kent, Ontario United Counties of Essex and Kent .     other people Gilbert McMicking Gilbert McMicking born 1788 in Stamford Township, Welland County was a businessman and political figure in Upper Canada . He was the son of Peter McMicking, a United Empire Loyalist who immigrated to Upper Canada during the American Revolutionary War and settled in Stamford in 1780. Gilbert served as quartermaster for the local militia during the War of 1812 . He was appointed coroner for the Niagara District, Upper Canada Niagara District in 1811. In 1838, he became customs collector at Queenston, Ontario Queenston . He represented the 4th riding of Lincoln County, Ontario Lincoln in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada from 1834 to 1841 as a Reform Party pre Confederation Reformer . He married Catherine Swayze in July 1831 and had one daughter, Sarah Catherine. Gilbert McMicking died in 1849 in Queenston, Lincoln County, Canada West. Founded by Frank Heaps in Toronto, they started brewing beer in 1984 and grew to become one of the largest independent breweries in Canada. Their location on Atlantic Ave. in Toronto included a gift shop that allowed the independent brewer to sell alcohol on Sunday, something that Ontario s The Beer Store licensed outlet store chain , which had a virtual monopoly on beer sales, was not permitted to do at the time. They were acquired by Sleeman Breweries in 1998. Soon afterwards Frank Heaps son Cameron used the profits his dad made from selling Upper Canada Brewing Co. to open another Toronto based brewery, Steam Whistle. As for Upper Canada, its production moved to the more efficient brewing facility in Guelph, and is still, to this day, available for purchase on Sunday, at the Guelph Brewery retail store. There has been somewhat of a revival for the brand in the last couple of years, as it was repositioned as a value craft beer Craft beer without the Premium price , and sales have sky rocketed.     Eastern District was one of four districts of the Province of Quebec 1763 1791 Province of Quebec created in 1788 in the western reaches of the Montreal District and partitioned in 1791 to create the new colony of Upper Canada . Known as Lunenburg District until 1792, it was abolished in 1849. The district seat was in New Johnstown present day Cornwall, Ontario . The district was originally bounded to the west by a line running north from the mouth of the Gananoque River and to the east by Lower Canada .
