Johannes was the second Archbishop of Uppsala , Sweden. His short lived reign was between 1185 and 1187. His name is sometimes spelled as Johan, the Swedish form of Johannes, but since the Swedish language had yet to be established it is of little importance. About Johannes little is known. Only a few months after the death of the first Archbishop Stefan archbishop of Uppsala Stefan , Johannes was selected by the Pope to be his successor. He was ordained by the Archbishop of Lund , Absalon the primate religion primate over the newly established Swedish archbishopric by November 1185. In 1187, a ship from the not yet christianed Estonia entered M laren , a lake close to Uppsala, on a plundering expedition. It sailed to Sigtuna , a prosperous city at that time, and plundered it. On its way back, barricades had been set up at Almarest ket , the only exist point and the place where Johannes was currently residing, to prevent the ship from escaping. The ship was however able to get around the barricades through a creek. There followed a battle, and during the battle Johannes was killed. Historically there have been 2 Sm lands nations in Uppsala, the first of which was founded in 1645 and represented the whole of the province of Sm land . However, this nation was short lived and in 1663 it split into two Wexio nation representing western Sm land and Kalmar nation representing eastern Sm land and the island of land . The current Sm lands nation was formed from the Wexio nation of this split in 1667, following a disagreement with Kalmar nation it renamed itself to Sm lands. The nation currently has around 1000 members. Third party date March 2012 The River Rafting is an annual event organized by the Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students, UTN. The Rafting takes place on Fyris the Fyris River on the last day of April as it has done since the first organized version of the event in 1975. The main rafting event is preceded by the weeklong River Festival . The River Rafting The River Rafting takes place on the Fyris River on 30 April every year, which is known as Valborg in Sweden or Walpurgis Night . More than 350 participants go rafting along the river, from the Haglund bridge to the Islandsfall, in their home built polystyrene rafts. About one hundred rafts usually participate and more than 30,000 spectators come to watch. After all the rafts have run the course, a number of prizes are handed out by the principal of the university, the Rector Magnificus. The period to apply is in March, and everyone over the age of 18 may participate. The application is done group wise, and each raft may hold 2 4 people. A few of the rafts represent different organizations but the vast majority of the participants are students at University of Uppsala. Students from other universities also come to Uppsala to participate. The River Festival The festival, which takes place during the preceding week, is also organized by UTN. The aim of the festival, apart from allowing the participants to build their rafts together in the raft construction area, is to entertain the rafters as well as other students who want to join in on the festivities. Petrus was the third archbishop of Uppsala , Sweden, between 1187 1197. He was ordained by the mighty Danish archbishop Absalon in Lund , the primate religion primate of Sweden at that time. When Sweden got a new king, Sverker II of Sweden Sverker , who was related to the Danish Royal Court, Absalon extended his authority over Sweden. When Petrus in 1196 elected three bishops, Absalon requested the Pope to interact since the bishops were the sons of other priests, and this was not allowed according to Canon law Catholic Church Canon law . He also mentioned that several Swedish bishops refused to travel to Absalon s synod s.
