Wafer scaleintegration , WSI for short, is a yet unused system of building verylarge integrated circuit networks that use an entire wafer electronics silicon wafer to produce a single super chip . Through a combination of large size and reduced packaging, WSI could lead to dramatically reduced costs for some systems, notably massively parallel supercomputer s. The name is taken from the term verylargescaleintegration , the current state of the art when WSI was being developed. The concept To understand WSI, one has to consider the normal chip making process. A single large cylindrical crystal of silicon is produced and then cut into disks known as wafers. The wafers are then cleaned and polished in preparation for the fabrication process. A photographic process is used to pattern the surface where material ought to be deposited on top of the wafer and where not to. The desired material is deposited and the photographic mask is removed for the next layer. From then on the wafer is repeatedly processed in this fashion, putting on layer after layer of circuitry on the surface. Multiple copies of these patterns are deposited on the wafer in a grid fashion across the surface of the wafer. After all the possible locations are patterned, the wafer surface appears like a sheet of graph paper, with grid lines delineating the individual chips. Each of these grid locations is tested for manufacturing defects by automated equipment. Those locations that are found to be defective are recorded and marked with a dot of paint. The wafer is then sawed apart to cut out the individual chips. Those defective chips are thrown away, or recycled, while the working chips are placed into packaging ... the chips into an integrated system usually via a printed circuit board . Wafer scaleintegration ... package &ndash in principle, chips as large as a full wafer. Of course this is not easy, since given the flaws on the wafers a single large design printed onto a wafer would almost always not work ... more details

Largescale coastal behaviour is an attempt to model the morphodynamics of coast al change at time and space scales appropriate to management and prediction. Temporally this is at the decade to century scale, spatially at the scale of tens of kilometers. It was developed by de Vriend. Modelling largescale coastal behaviour involves some level of parameter isation rather than simply upscaling from process or downscaling from the Geology geological scale. It attempts to recognise patterns occurring at these scales. Cowell and Thom 2005 recognise the need to admit uncertainty in largescale coastal behaviour given incomplete process knowledge. coastal geography Category Geomorphology Category Coastal geography ... more details

A VeryLarge Business Application VLBA is a Business Application, which can be implemented through different types of Business Application Systems as well as through System Landscapes. They support one or more processes of business application fields like accounting, human resources, logistic, distribution or marketing, in which at least one of those processes is a business process. According to that, a VLBA is directly successfully effective and has a strategic relevance through the support of possibly inter company business processes. An organization might not be able to fulfill its core businesses efficiently without the help of a VLBA. It is a strategic dependency of the constituted organization, which is given by an application of a VLBA. That is because changing or turning the system away is associated with big financial, organizational and personnel related costs. Furthermore, VLBAs do not have any spatial, organizational, cultural or technical limits. VLBAs are similar to a Business Information System in the manner that they can support several Business Application Fields and in this case, they are based on several types of Business Application Systems. VLBAs are found in different fields within the different organizations regardless of their size. Systems of Enterprise Resource Planning ERP , Supply Chain Management SCM and Customer Relationship Management CRM are examples of a VLBA. Within a Supply Chain, small and middle organizations can participate in a VLBA. Furthermore, VLBA indicates a field of research. The Large Optical Test and Integration Site , or LOTIS , is a facility at the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in Sunnyvale, CA for testing large optical components under realistic conditions. LOTIS has large, thermally stabilized vacuum chamber , vibration isolated optical benches, and a large 6.5 meter telescope run backwards as a collimator to create images for the test optics to view. It can generate images from the visible through the mid wavelength IR. The fabrication error in the Hubble Space Telescope main mirror is the classic example that shows the need for such testing. In this case, a test facility such as LOTIS was not easily available, so the completed optics were not tested as a unit, and instead relied on careful testing of the individual components. Unfortunately, due to a mis assembled null corrector , one of the tests was wrong, and a mis Figuring figured mirror was not discovered until the telescope was placed into service. This is exactly the type of problem that LOTIS can detect, since it is designed to test large optical systems as a unit by creating realistic inputs and operating conditions for them.
