Rat Boy is an extreme caricature of the juvenile delinquent and criminal underclass , who lives by theft, has a strong drug habit and defies the law as openly as his youth allows. Originally introduced as the younger half brother of Tasha Slappa , Rat Boy s age is variable from under twelve to mid teens. He always wears a track suit and goes barefoot in all weathers his appearance is deliberately rat like, with huge ears, a long nose, protruding front teeth and a scampering gait. He displays his irreverence by defecating everywhere, especially in the properties which he burgles, and is drawn with a permanent turd protruding from his behind, like the tail of his animal namesake. The original strip was a spoof of 1950s comic strip s with an upper class boy and his Lassie like dog, wandering around the country and generally messing up the lives of the people he meets. Instead of a dog, he was accompanied by a bin liner , blowing in the breeze. Most strips featured the bin liner being callously killed at the end. The strip was a parody of another strip from The Dandy called Black Bob , about a shepherd and his champion sheepdog. Black Bag was drawn by Graham Murdoch , under the pen name of Snoddy his cat . It lasted for a number of years in the late 1980s up to about 1990. Black Bag was affectionately known as B Bag , or Baggy , by his devout readers. The strip features a school teacher Brian Chalkwright stranded on a tiny rocky islet after a shipwreck . Stuck for anything else to do, he continues to teach with the assorted wildlife as his pupils. A major feature of the strip is that he never actually says anything of any academic value, but instead spends all his time saying things like Face the front and I will not start until I have absolute quiet . His adventures have included rescuing a boy from another shipwreck, only to bore him so much that he left the islet in his safety ring. On another occasion, the teacher got himself in serious trouble for abusing a crab crushing it under his feet but is exonerated by seagulls . In the same episode he has sexual relations with an underage starfish . He is rescued by a navy search and rescue team, only to admonish them as if a delinquent pupil, saying You think you re so clever, being able to fly a helicopter, but it s not going to help you in the real world. Chris Donald born 25 April 1960 in Newcastle upon Tyne Newcastle , England is the founder of, and one of the principal contributors to, the United Kingdom British comic magazine Viz comic Viz . He attended West Jesmond Primary School, ref http www.communitychannel.org content view 2666 ref and then Heaton Comprehensive School, where he failed his Advanced Level UK A levels , and in 1978 he began work as a clerical officer at the Department of Health and Social Security DHSS central office in Longbenton , Newcastle upon Tyne Newcastle . Chris, together with his brother Simon Donald Simon and a schoolfriend Jim Brownlow, set up Viz in December 1979 from a bedroom in Newcastle. He was editor or head of the editorial cabinet for many years but retired from day to day duties in 1999, and now only contributes occasional cartoons. He has since written a personal history of Viz magazine entitled Rude Kids . In an interview on Channel 4 News , Chris Donald paid tribute to Spike Milligan on his death. He cited him and Monty Python as the two major influences on the comic. He is known for his work with adult comic Viz comics Viz , having contributed to the magazine from its early years. He co conceived and personally created The Fat Slags , one of the magazine s most famous strips. Having previously worked engineering Cactus cacti at the University of Leicester , Dury was the first cartoonist to be offered a full time job at Viz by co creator Chris Donald in April 1988, when royalties began to make the magazine a profitable business. However, Dury had been contributing to Viz since as early as 1985, often delivering his cartoons by hand to Donald s house. Early creations, Donald noted, tended to have names that rhymed such as Tristam Banks and his Jocular Pranks or Albert Gordon the Traffic Warden . He also noted Dury s fondness of, and impressive ability to draw, cowboy boots. Dury originally worked with Donald in Donald s small office formerly his bedroom at his parents house in Jesmond . As the success of the comic book grew he became a member of the so called Viz editorial cabinet, theoretically headed by Chris Donald, but which also included for most of its run Dury, Simon Donald and Simon Thorp .
