    About the Volunteer Railroaders Association Volunteer Railroaders Association aka VRA is a NJ based non profit group of volunteers. The VRA runs fund raising train rides for children in NJ. They operate and own four motor cars. One, rare Lehigh & New England Railroad Sheffield Corp. model 40B. The VRA members operate motor cars trips for the enjoyment of all, including the public. The children s events are fundraiser are to benefit the creation of the NJ State Transportation Museum and other railroad related preservation activities. The VRA is a member of the NJ based United Railway Historical Society of NJ aka URHS of NJ. Many local NJ chapters of the National Railway Historical Society are also members of the URHS of NJ. History In the beginning this group had the honor of being the exclusive volunteer group for the Susquehanna 142 steam program in New Jersey in 1993. Then the group were known as the Susquehanna Volunteer Association. When the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway moved the program to New York this group was left with nothing to do.     The Civil Air Search and Rescue Association or CASARA , is a Canada wide volunteer aviation association dedicated to the promotion of aviation safety, and to the provision of air search support services to Canada s National Search and Rescue Program . Membership is open to private aircraft owners and pilots, as well as to those who wish to receive training as spotters air observers , navigators, and ground team members. CASARA members receive training in fields such as aviation safety, meteorology, survival awareness and search techniques and procedures. CASARA is a civilian organization which receives funding from the Canadian Forces and Transport Canada. CASARA assists Canadian Forces Air Command in carrying out its aeronautical search and rescue mandate by providing trained spotters for military aircraft by providing its own search aircraft and crews and by providing ground teams that specialize in locating emergency beacons. CASARA also contributes to Transport Canada s aviation safety mandate by promoting aviation safety and search and rescue awareness in local communities. The meeting produced some lively and colorful discussions, but one base theme kept coming to the forefront the Call Volunteers in the state were headed in the wrong direction. In late 1987 Call Volunteer Firefighters were excluded from previously enjoyed death and disability benefits under the state retirement law. In 1989 Call Volunteers were categorically excluded from being members of the district Haz Mat teams in conjunction with the State funded Haz Mat vehicles. It became apparent from this meeting that the Call Volunteers lacked organization and adequate Representation politics representation in matters concerning them on the state level. It was unanimously voted to set up a Steering committee Steering Committee to report back to the group with recommendations. On April 23, 1990, the Steering Committee Report was presented and unanimously accepted with a couple of minor modifications. On April 30, 1990, this group met again and decided to do a mailing to survey the cities and towns across the state in an effort to solicit representation that would make this a true Massachusetts Call Volunteer Firefighters Association.
