Walther Kranz b. Nov 23rd, 1884 in Georgsmarienh tte Sept 18, 1960 in Bonn was a German Classical philologist and historian of philosophy. Kranz studied Classical Philology at Berlin from 1903 to 1907 with Ulrich von Wilamowitz Moellendorf , Hermann Diels and Eduard Norden . He received his doctorate in 1910 with Wilamowitz Moellendorf. For several years he was a teacher at the Berlin Grunewald experimental school. In 1932, he joined the University of Halle as honorary professor of classical languages . He took over the publication of Fragments of the pre Socratic from the 5th Edition onwards. After the takeover by the Nazis, he experienced political difficulties because his wife was Jewish. In 1937 he lost his full teaching license and in 1943, he accepted an invitation from the University of Istanbul and taught there until 1950. Prof. Dr. Dr. Herbert Walther was an internationally acclaimed leader in the fields of quantum optics and laser physics . He was born in Ludwigshafen Rhein in 1935 and died near Munich in 2006. He was a founding director of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics MPQ in Garching , Germany . He also was Chair of Physics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich . He is primarily known for his experimental work on cavity quantum electrodynamics in the form of the micromaser as well his groundbreaking work on the ion trap . At the time of his death he had over 600 publications and numerous awards from a number of prestigious physics and optics societies. One of them is the Albert A. Walther Carl Eduard Kausch was the second of four children. He studied medicine at the Friedrich Wilhelm Universit t in Strassburg from 1885 to 1890. He received his doctor s license on July 8, 1890 and obtained his doctorate in 1891. From 1890 to 1892 he worked in the pscychiatric neurologic clinic under Friedrich Jolly 1844 1904 and Karl F rstner 1848 1906 , then from 1892 to 1896 at the medical clinic under Bernhard Naunyn 1839 1935 . After being habilitated for internal medicine in 1896, he changed to surgery. From 1896 to 1906 he worked at the university surgical clinic in Breslau, training under professor Jan Mikulicz Radecki 1850 1905 . The surgical clinic in Breslau was one of the largest in its time. Kausch was habilitated for surgery in 1899, becoming titular professor in 1902. In 1903, Kausch married Mikulicz daughter. After the death of his father in law in 1905, Kausch became head of the clinic in an acting capacity. In 1905 he was elected medical director and head of the I. surgical department at the St dtisches Augusta Viktoria Krankenhaus in Berlin Sch neberg, then still under construction.
