The first rail traffic used the tunnel in 1885. Drewton Tunnel is one of the longest disused tunnels in the United Kingdom at a length of 1  mile 354  yards, and lies to the east of the shorter Sugar Loaf Tunnel and Weedley Tunnel . The western portal of Drewton Tunnel is almost entirely buried with landfill and is situated in a chalk quarry operated by Stoneledge. This end of the tunnel has considerable deposits of mud on the former trackbed washed in by rainfall as a result of local quarrying operations. The eastern portal remains open although is protected with a security fence. The tunnel regularly experiences chalkfalls as the lining inside deteriorates in the damp conditions. The tunnel has five airshafts, the middle airshaft situated adjacent to Riplingham crossroads being the deepest. The area around this airshaft was used a temporary camp for navvies building the tunnel. File Drewtonairshaft2a.jpg thumb left The third airshaft situated at Riplingham crossroads, March 2011 gbmapping SE 962 336 , Drewton Tunnel was closed to rail traffic in 1958. Since closure landfill has threatened the eastern approaches to the tunnel. The 83 foot deep Little Weighton Cutting has been completely filled in, as have other areas of open space around the eastern portal. Despite its continual decay Drewton Tunnel is now home to a large number of bat s. 1. Mosi Tunnel

refimprove date April 2009 The Mosi Tunnel is a motorway tunnel in Switzerland which opened in 1964. It is situated on the A4 Switzerland A4 and also the main part of the bypass of Brunnen SZ which leads between Brunnen North and Brunnen South. The two lane tunnel one lane for each direction is 1100 metres long and links the motorway A4 with the Axenstrasse . It is the longest tunnel in the Canton of Schwyz and will be until the Morschacher Tunnel opens in 2020 between Brunnen North and Sisikon . Then the Mositunnel will lose its status as a motorway tunnel and will only be a main street tunnel. Security Three dramatic crashes in 13 months and subpar results from an international tunnel test ref http www.20min.ch news schweiz story 25983239 20Minuten.ch Der gef hrlichste Tunnel der Schweiz ref started many discussions about the security of the tunnel. It has no service tunnel although one is planned. Some drivers say that their windshield fogs up at the entrance to the north end of the tunnel. Accidents In three car accidents during November 2007 and December 2008 three people died and at least three were injured. All the crashes happened the same way A car driving from north to south goes into the other lane to pass and crashes into a lorry which goes out of control. In the first two cases, the following cars could brake or make way in time, but in the third accident in December 2008 the lorry crashed into another car and then into the wall. Measures Some safety measures will soon be installed such as the painted midline which separates the two lanes getting new reflectors installed. Meanwhile, arrows which show the right direction to go have already been painted but they have been criticized by motorcyclists because of the danger of slipping on the painted sections when it is wet. ref http www.tcs schwyz.ch cms attachments 210 Richtungspfeile Mositunnel.pdf Bote der Urschweiz Article about the arrows PDF ref References references coord 46.995 N 8.6144 E source dewiki ...   more details
