  1. Forgotten Widows

    Orphan date February 2009 The Forgotten Widows are a group of women who were barred from receiving any compensation after the death of their United States Military spouses. As a result of the Survivor Benefit Plan being passed in the late 1970s, spouses of servicemembers who died before the act was put into effect were cut off from receiving any aid from the military. The United States Department of Defense Department of Defense has repealed certain statutes barring the Forgotten Widows, a vocal minority in recent years, from receiving compensation. In 2001, the DoD allowed widows of servicemembers who retired from active service before September 21, 1972 and died before March 21, 1974 to receive a monthly stipend, on the condition that the widow has not remarried. Bettencourt formed the band after the moderate success of his 1996 solo album, Schizophonic Nuno Bettencourt album Schizophonic . The band s sound went back to a funkier guitar driven rock reminiscent of Extreme, while still having post grunge and alternative influences. After the end of the Furnished Souls For Rent tour, in 2001, Nuno decided to dismiss the band and released a record as Population 1 , mostly recorded by himself. They have released three full length albums and six split EPs. History Louisville, KY s Young Widows formed in 2006 from the ashes of mathcore group Breather Resist . In December 2005, lead singer Steve Sidoni left Breather Resist, and guitarist Evan Patterson and bassist Nick Thieneman assumed the vocal duties. They entered the studio in early 2006 but found the sound change significantly. They then changed the name from Breather Resist to Young Widows. Preceded by a split 7 with Coliseum band Coliseum , their debut full length entitled Settle Down City was released in September 2006 on Jade Tree Records. Citing a lack of interest from Jade Tree, the band later moved to Temporary Residence Limited where they released their second album Old Wounds in September 2008. The libretto is based on Jean Pierre Felicien Mallefille s one act play Les deux veuves. The opera was composed between June 1873 and January 1874, and its premiere took place on 27 March 1874 at the Prague Czech Theatre under the direction of Smetana. However, this premiere was not successful and the opera was rewritten in 1874.
