Life He was the son of Sylvester Alonzo Kellogg 1838 1904, justice of the New York Supreme Court and Susan Elizabeth Averill Kellogg. He graduated Bachelor of Arts A.B. from Rock Point Military Academy in Burlington, Vermont , and LL.B. from Harvard University in 1892. He practiced law at Plattsburgh, New York . On March 5, 1903, he married Katharine Miller Weed. On June 16, 1903, he was appointed by Governor Odell a justice of the New York Supreme Court 4th District to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of his father, and was elected as a Republican to a full term in November of the same year. From 1918 on, he sat on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division Appellate Division, Third Dept. In New York state election, 1926 1926 , he was elected on the United States Republican Party Republican and Democratic tickets to the New York Court of Appeals . He resigned on May 16, 1934 due to ill health. He was buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh. He was the first African American to play basketball for Manhattan College . In 1951, Kellogg is noted for refusing a 1,000 bribe to point shaving shave points during basketball games. He contacted the authorities and touched off the CCNY point shaving scandal largest college betting scandal in American history. Ultimately, the investigation involved 32 players from seven colleges and encompassed 86 games between 1947 and 1950. Kellogg left college for a stint in the Army he then returned to Manhattan College where he doubled up on courses. He graduated in 1953 and began playing for the Harlem Globetrotters . In 1954, he sustained a cervical spinal cord injury in an automobile accident and was paralysis paralyzed . Three fellow Globetrotters were unscathed during the accident. Kellogg received treatment at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Administration Hospital in the Bronx , New York City , New York . He became an ardent supporter of wheelchair athletics . He coached the Pan Am Jets as well as the Brooklyn Whirlaways . Selling stamps Stryker started out in the stamp business in 1928. In 1942 he and Robert Laurence formed Laurence and Stryker, a philatelic auction house which sold rare postage stamps and postal covers from 1942 to 1960. Philatelic finds Stryker is noted for a number of rare philatelic finds of United States stamps, such as discovering the first unused copy of the 1923 one cent Franklin Scott 594 , and the 1923 one cent Franklin Scott 596 , both recovered from printer s waste.
