  1. Peripatric speciation

Evolutionary biology Image Speciation modes.svg left thumb 300px Comparison of allopatric speciation allopatric , peripatric, parapatric speciation parapatric and sympatric speciation sympatric speciation . Peripatric and peripatry are terms from biogeography , referring to organism s whose ranges are closely adjacent but do not overlap, being separated where these organisms do not occur &ndash for example a wide river or a mountain range. Such organisms are usually closely related e.g. sister species , their distribution being the result of peripatric speciation . Peripatric speciation is a form of speciation , the formation of new species through evolution . In this form, new species are formed in isolated peripheral populations this is similar to allopatric speciation in that populations are isolated and prevented from exchanging genes. However, peripatric speciation, unlike allopatric speciation, proposes that one of the populations is much smaller than the other. One possible consequence of peripatric speciation is that a geographically widespread ancestral species becomes paraphyletic , thereby becoming a paraspecies . The concept of a paraspecies is therefore a logical consequence of the Evolutionary Species Concept, by which one species give rise to a daughter species. The evolution of the polar bear from the brown bear is a well documented example of a living species that gave rise to another living species through the evolution of a population located at the margin of the ancestral species range. ref http en.wikinews.org wiki Polar bears related to extinct Irish bears, DNA study shows ref ref http www.sciencedirect.com science article pii S0960982211006452 ref Peripatric speciation was originally proposed by Ernst Mayr , and is related to the founder effect , because small living populations may undergo selection bottlenecks. ref cite journal author Provine WB title Ernst Mayr Genetics and speciation url http www.genetics.org cgi content full 167 3 1041 jo ...   more details

Interwar period Between the two World Wars , Soviet Union Soviet biological research managed to connect genetics with field research on natural populations. Chetverikov lead a team at the Nikolai Koltsov Institute of Experimental Biology in Moscow, and in 1926 produced what should have been one of the landmark papers of the modern evolutionary synthesis . However, published only in Russian language Russian , it was largely ignored in the English speaking world though J.B.S. Haldane possessed a translation . Chetverikov influenced several Russian geneticists who later came to work in the West, such as Theodosius Dobzhansky and Timofeev Ressovsky , both of whom continued to work in a similar style. Nervous laughter is usually less robust in expression than a good belly laugh , and may be combined with confused glances or awkward silence on the part of others in the audience. Nervous laughter is considered analogous to a courtesy laugh , which may be rendered by more of a conscious effort in an attempt to move a situation along more quickly, especially when the comedian is pausing for laughter. Nervous laughter is a physical reaction to stress, tension, confusion, or anxiety just like sweaty palms or a raised heart rate. It s not something you consciously choose to do. Nervous laughter has nothing to do with your sense of humor, and can overcome you at the unfunniest of times.
