Spencer Milligan is an United States American actor best known for playing Rick Marshall, the father of Will and Holly Marshall, on the first two seasons of the 1970s children science fiction TV series, Land of the Lost 1974 TV series Land of the Lost . The fictional Marshalls were an American family who found themselves transported to a mysterious realm overrun with dinosaurs and other exotic, fearsome creatures. He was a defensive back in American football football , a third baseman in baseball and a wrestler who often wrestled in the highest weight class, despite being only about 5 11, 185 he would frequently wrestle and defeat 250 pounders, and once wrestled and defeated a 325 pounder in the NCAAs . Milligan earned ten varsity letters, an all time University record. He was an All American in wrestling and was Princeton s 1981 Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, which is the University s highest undergraduate honor. Stuart Milligan born in Boston, Massachusetts on 10 September 1953 is an American actor based primarily in Britain, best known for his recurring role as Adam Klaus in Jonathan Creek . He attended South High School in Denver, Colorado. He was kicked out for refusing to shave his beard, and had to attend a private school. He has been on British television in Crossroads soap opera Crossroads , playing Max Samson, in Chalk and in Secret Army . He also appears in the 1985 motion picture Santa Claus The Movie , in which he can be seen seated next to the chairman in the court room at the trial of the character BZ. In 2006, he guest starred in the Doctor Who audio drama The Reaping Doctor Who audio The Reaping , while in 2007 starred in an episode of Lewis . Milligan also appeared in an episode of Midsomer Murders entitled Country Matters .
