    About the English tenor the Australian glam rock singer William Shakespeare singer Unreferenced date February 2008 William Shakespeare 16 June 1849 1931 was an English tenor , pedagogue , and composer . William Shakespeare was born in England on 16 June 1849. He studied in London, at the Royal Academy of Music with William Sterndale Bennett . Winning the Mendelssohn Scholarship in 1871, he travel led to Leipzig to study with composer, pianist, conductor, and pedagogue Carl Reinecke , but soon left Leipzig for Milan , to study under the guidance of the singing teacher Francesco Lamperti . He appeared in England once again as a tenor in 1875. In 1878, he was appointed as a professor of singing at the Royal Academy of Music. He died in 1931. In addition to singing and composition, William Shakespeare wrote and published several books. These include The Art of Singing , a three part series published from 1898 to 1899, Singing for Schools and Colleges , published in 1907, Plain Words on Singing in 1924, and The Speaker s Art in 1931. William Shakespeare s style of vocal pedagogy mirrored closely that of his Italian mentor Lamperti, as evidenced from his direct reference to la lotte vocal , a concept taken directly from the nineteenth century Italianate school of vocal development.     William Shakespeare Hays July 19, 1837 July 23, 1907 , was an United States American poet and lyricist . He wrote some 350 songs over his career and sold as many as 20 million copies of his works. These pieces varied in tone from low comedy to sentimental and pious his material was sometimes confused with that of Stephen Foster as a result. In his later years, Hays put forth one of the more plausible claims to authorship of the song Dixie song Dixie . In the end, however, no evidence could be produced to back up his pretensions. Biography Hays was born as William Hays in Louisville, Kentucky , back then a small but rapidly growing city where he would spend most of his life. He published his first poetry in 1856 and 1857 through the paper of his Georgetown, Kentucky , school. Hays eventually received the nickname Shakespeare for his writings, an appellation he made a formal part of his name. Hays finished school and returned to Louisville in 1857. He found employment at D. P. Fauld s music store, where he continued to write music and poetry. He published many of his pieces under pen name s, including Syah Hays spelled backward . Three small collections of his poetry were also produced.
