Liberals for Life was a pro life interest group advocacy group that worked within the Liberal Party of Canada during the 1980s and early 1990s. Some of its members were also affiliated with the Campaign Life Coalition , and, as such, the group was often accused of entryism . According to its members, Liberals for Life was created after the national victory of Brian Mulroney s Progressive Conservative Party of Canada Progressive Conservative Party in the Canadian federal election, 1984 1984 federal election . The organization attracted little attention until the early 1990s, when it endorsed Tom Wappel in his bid for the party leadership, and gained control of several riding association s. The Liberal Party s constitution was amended to allow the leader to appoint candidates in certain Electoral district Canada riding s in 1992. Jean Chr tien defended the change as necessary to prevent single issue groups from taking over the Liberal Party. It has contested both state and federal elections in recent years, but has only achieved one elected representative Janet Woollard elected as an Independent in Western Australia . It has no representation at the federal level. The party was founded in 2001 by Dr Keith Woollard , husband of Janet Woollard and an ex Australian Medical Association AMA president. The Party generally professes itself to be ideologically aligned with the centre right sympathies of the Liberal Party of Australia , but with a greater regard to environmentalism . Despite its low profile, the party has gained a respectable proportion of the primary Senate vote in some states. For example, in the 2004 election it received only a few hundred votes less than the Australian Democrats in Victoria. The party was originally founded in 1990, when the Social Democratic Youth League reconstituted itself as New Democracy . In 2003 the party was renamed Liberals of Serbia. When the Socialist Party of Serbia lost its majority in parliament, New Democracy , which had previously belonged to the opposition, supported the socialists in gaining a parliamentary majority necessary to form a government. In 1998, New Democracy left the government and was replaced by the Serbian Radical Party . In 2000, New Democracy was a part of the Democratic Opposition of Serbia DOS coalition, the candidate of which, Vojislav Ko tunica , won the 2000 presidential elections. At the parliamentary election in the same year the party was part of the same coalition, and participated to the government which was formed by DOS.
