The YoungMen Arabic were a gang during the Lebanese Civil War . The gang was linked to, but separate from, the Lebanese Forces . Fighters of the Lebanese Forces generally held the gang in low esteem, disparagingly calling them the Apaches or the Indians on account of their wild violent behavior. The gang was recruited by Elie Hobeika, the Lebanese Forces intelligence chief, from men who had been expelled from the Lebanese Forces. The gang was used for special extra legal activities and is believed to have carried out the Sabra and Shatila massacre under Israeli protection. After Elie Hobeika split with the Lebanese Forces , the YoungMen may have formed the nucleus of the notorious Lebanese Forces Executive Command splinter group which he created under Syrian Army protection. Background During the early stages of the Lebanese Civil War, armed militants of the Kataeb and Lebanese Forces operated with little discipline in a situation of escalating violence. As the fighting progressed, the leadership imposed a higher degree of discipline on these fighters. As a result, some of the early fighters found themselves expelled from the forces for insubordination, looting, and other crimes. Elie Hobeika claimed that some of these men had fought well and should be used, even if they were not suitable for the ordinary strict environment of military service. He recruited them for irregular service under his own leadership. Members of the gang tended to have disadvantaged socio economic backgrounds, troubled social backgrounds, and limited education. Organization The YoungMen did not use a traditional military structure. They were divided into three smaller gangs, initially of about thirty men each. The main group was based next to the LF headquarters in Karantina , and used a loose hierarchical structure. The other two groups, one based in Ashrafieh and one in the old railway station, used no set hierarchy expect strict allegiance to Hobeika and their own group leader. Sources ... more details

For other uses Angry young man disambiguation The angry youngmen were a group of mostly working class working and middle class United Kingdom British playwright s and novel ists who became prominent in the 1950s. The group s leading members included John Osborne and Kingsley Amis . The phrase was originally coined by the Royal Court Theatre s press officer to promote John Osborne s Look Back in Anger . It is thought to be derived from the autobiography of Leslie Paul , founder of the Woodcraft Folk , whose Angry Young Man was published in 1951. Following the success of the Osborne play, the label was later applied by British newspapers to describe young British writers who were characterised by a disillusionment with traditional English society. The term, always imprecise, began to have less meaning over the years as the writers to whom it was originally applied became more divergent, and many of them dismissed the label as useless. The Parable of the Old Men and the Young is a poem by Wilfred Owen which compares the ascent of Abraham to Mount Moriah and his Binding of Isaac near sacrifice of Isaac there with the start of World War I . It had first been published by Siegfried Sassoon in 1920 with the title The Parable of the Old Man and the Young , without the last line And half the seed of Europe, one by one . ref http modernism.research.yale.edu wiki index.php Poems 28Wilfred Owen 29 Yale University, The Modernism Lab ref The poem is an allusion to a story in the Bible , Book of Genesis Genesis 22 1 18. In the poem, the biblical patriarch Abraham significantly called by his former name, Abram, in the poem takes Isaac his only begotten son by his wife Sarah with him to make a sacrificial offering to God. The offering, though Isaac does not know this, is to be Isaac himself. Then Abram bound the youth with belts and straps , which suggests imagery relating to a young soldier being sent, possibly against his will, in a uniform to fight. When he makes to sacrifice his son, an angel calls from heaven, and tells Abram not to harm Isaac. Instead, he must offer the Ram of Pride . Then follow the last two lines of the poem diverges from the Biblical account, set apart for greater effect But the old man would not so, but slew his son, and half the seed of Europe, one by one. The Parable of the Old Men and the Young is written loosely in iambic pentameter . It does not use traditional rhyme instead, the lines are bound together by assonance , consonance , and alliteration . As the title mentions, the poem is a parable . It is generally accepted that the old man, Abram, represents the European nations or more probably their government s.
