Zed Two was a game development studio consisting of brothers John and Ste Pickford, probably best known for their 3D water based puzzle game Wetrix . The Pickford brothers now develop under the moniker of Zee 3 Digital Publishing . Formation and disbandment The company emerged after frustrations over the difficulties of trying to create high quality and interesting games in the increasingly factory like environment of their then employer Creations, and complications of the ensuing reorganisation, forced John and Ste to resign and form a new studio rather than an internal team. Starting off in Ste s front room, and in a business climate which had grown increasingly hostile to small development teams and original games, the brothers successfully got their studio off the ground, selling puzzle game Wetrix to Ocean Software and Infogrames in 1997. Zed Two its name a nod to Zippo had a profitable six years, growing to around 20 staff and successfully mixing original IP creation with work for hire licensed games to pay the rent, completing 15 titles and several more prototypes . However, Zed Two were then financially stricken as two clients in the same year each failed to pay 1m that they owed Zed Two, forcing the latter to sell up to their richer neighbours, Warthog Games , in December 2002. This new parent company hit similar financial difficulties a year later, and in early 2004 Zed Two was closed, with John and Ste being made redundant. Reincarnation as Zee 3 Digital Publishing Forming another new studio was no longer possible without significant finance, in an industry that was demanding higher production values, larger development teams, and increasingly derivitave and conservative licensed games. It was presented by the disc jockey Ed Stewart , nicknamed Stewpot , and was co hosted by Zed, the rebel robot . Zed was often cheeky to the sometimes bad tempered Stewart. This programme is now of very minor significance, except for one point. While the theme of robots rebelling against their masters is a common one in culture, this is quite possibly the only case where the audience were supposed to be on the robot s side.
