Over his career in the NFL, he worked three Super Bowls Super Bowl I I , Super Bowl V V , Super Bowl X X , 11 conference championship games, and was the referee for the first Monday Night Football game in 1970. He wore the uniform number 56. Biography Schachter held a doctorate from Alfred University in New York and was a high school Coach sport coach and English teacher when he began officiating local games in 1941 in Redlands, California . After earning his degree from Alfred in 1937, Schachter served in the US marines Marines during World War II . Following service in the Marines, he went back to teaching and coaching. In his other career, Schachter wrote a dozen English and vocabulary textbooks, a high school principal, and was a former superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District . His NFL career began in 1954 when then Commissioner Bert Bell hired him at 100 a game with a guarantee of seven games. Schachter retired from officiating after Super Bowl X in 1976, but continued to work with the NFL. He edited the league rule book, helped write the officials manual and wrote weekly exams for officiating crews. He also worked as an observer and mentor to new officials. He served as an instant replay official for two years. Schachter died at the age of 90 in San Pedro, California . A faculty member since 1969, he also has taught junior and senior high school mathematics and has authored and co authored many textbooks, including a six volume series used as part of the University School Mathematics Project secondary curriculum. In recognition of his work, he has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics . Usiskin s doctoral dissertation in mathematical education at the University of Michigan involved the field testing of his book, Geometry A Transformation Approach , which was written with Arthur Coxford .     Zalman Shneur Hebrew born 1887 died 20 February 1959 was an Israel i poet and writer. Biography Shneur was born in Shklov k o in Belarus then part of the Russian Empire in 1887. His parents were Isaac Zalkind and Feiga Sussman. At age 13, he left for Odessa , the center of literature and Zionism during this time. Shneur moved to Warsaw in 1902, and was hired by a successful publishing house. He then moved to Vilnius in 1904, where he began to publish his first book and a collection of stories. These poems were extremely successful, and many editions were published. In 1907, Shneur moved to Paris to study Natural Sciences, Philosophy, and Literature, at the Sorbonne. He traveled throughout Europe from 1908 to 1913, and even visited North Africa. At the start of World War I Zalman Shneur was in Berlin . During the years of the war, he worked in a hospital and studied at the University of Berlin . Shneur returned to Paris in 1923. He stayed there until 1940, when Hitler s troopers invaded France . Shneur then fled to Spain , and from there he went to New York in 1941. He finally emigrated to Israel in 1951. He was imprisoned in the concentration camp at Dachau concentration camp Dachau and found himself near the monastery of St. Ottilien Archabbey St. Ottilien when the war ended.
