SAK was founded in 1973 by Professor Hartwig Altenmueller and Professor Dietrich Wildung , with the aim of creating a useful communication mechanism for scholars researching ancient Egyptian culture. The first volume appeared in 1974, with a set of guidelines appearing under a stylised representation of the s3k crocodile Egyptian hieroglyphs hieroglyph sketched by Professor Wildung. This choice of name and logo may be a pun on the ancient Egyptian word unicode s k IPA en s k , which means to pull together . ref Raymond O.
