  1. Analytical phonics

For understanding the method used to teach students how to read through analytical approaches Synthetic phonics Phonetics Reading IPA notice Analytical Phonics refers to an approach to the teaching of reading in which the phonemes associated with particular graphemes are not pronounced in isolation. Children identify analyse the common phoneme in a set of words in which each word contains the phoneme under study. For example, teacher and pupils discuss how the following words are alike pat, park, push and pen. Analytic phonics for writing similarly relies on inferential learning realising that the initial phoneme in p i g is the same as that in p t, p a k, p u and p e n , children deduce that they must write that phoneme with grapheme. ref http www.literacytrust.org.uk Database Primary phonicsdef.html National Literacy Trust ref Today, Analytical phonics is referred to as Implicit phonics. 1. Analytical Society

The Analytical Society was a group of individuals in early 19th century United Kingdom Britain whose aim was to promote the use of Gottfried Leibniz Leibniz ian or analytical calculus as opposed to Newtonian calculus . The latter system came into being in the 18th century as an invention of Sir Isaac Newton , and was in use throughout Great Britain for political rather than practical reasons. The Newton system of Method of Fluxions fluxions and fluent mathematics fluent s proved cumbersome to use, and less flexible and usable than Leibniz ian calculus , which was used by the rest of Europe. The Society was founded in 1812 over a Sunday morning breakfast. Its membership originally consisted of a group of Cambridge University Cambridge students led by Robert Woodhouse . Woodhouse, a professor at the university, had published a series of papers that promoted Leibnizian calculus as early as 1803. These papers proved difficult to understand and thus failed to promote the idea. Other charter members included Charles Babbage , John Herschel Sir John Herschel and George Peacock . It soon attracted many new members, predominantly students. The first solid action by the Society did not take place until 1816, when a French textbook on analytical calculus was translated and distributed. This was followed in 1817 by the introduction, by Peacock, of Leibnizian symbols in that year s examinations in the local senate house. Both the exam and the textbook met with little criticism until 1819, when both were criticised by a D.M. Peacock. However, the reforms were encouraged by younger members of Cambridge University. George Peacock successfully encouraged a colleague, Richard Gwatkin of St John s College, Cambridge St John s College at Cambridge University, to adopt the new notation in his exams. Use of Leibnizian notation began to spread after this. In 1820, the notation was used by William ... of mathematics Category Mathematical societies fr Analytical Society ...   more details

  1. Analytical Thomism

Nofootnotes date October 2007 Analytical Thomism is a philosophy philosophical movement which promotes the interchange of ideas between the thought of Saint Thomas Aquinas including the philosophy carried on in relation to his thinking, called Thomism , and modern analytic philosophy . Scottish philosopher John Joseph Haldane John Haldane first coined the term in the early 1990s, and has since been one the movement s leading proponents. According to Haldane, analytical Thomism involves the bringing into mutual relationship of the styles and preoccupations of recent English speaking philosophy and the ideas and concerns shared by St Thomas and his followers Haldane 2004, xii . History The modern revival of Aquinas s thought can be traced to the work of mid 19th Century thomists, such as Thomas Zigliara, Josef Kleutgen, Gaetano Sanseverino, and Giovanni Maria Cornoldi. This movement received an enormous impetus by Pope Leo XIII s encyclical Aeterni Patris of 1879. In the first half of the twentieth century, Edouard Hugon , R ginald Garrigou Lagrange , tienne Gilson , and Jacques Maritain , among others, carried on Leo s call for a Thomist revival Paterson & Pugh, xiii xxiii . Gilson and Maritain in particular taught and lectured throughout Europe and North America, influencing a generation of English speaking Catholic philosopher s. Some of the latter then began to harmonize Thomism with broader contemporary philosophical trends. 1. Quality of analytical results

Orphan date May 2011 Quality of measurement s made in chemistry and other areas is an important issue in today s world as measurements influence quality of life , cross border trade and commerce . In this respect, EN ISO 17025 is the main standard used by testing and calibration laboratories as to appropriately tackle quality management related issues. While chapter four of the standard deals with management requirements, chapter five describes requirements for technical competence. Management related issues can be found in other standards as well e.g. ISO 9000 , however the technical requirements are specific for calibration and testing laboratories. Quality of analytical measurements technical requirements As for technical competence, the following topics are especially important sampling traceability of measurement result validation of measurement procedure uncertainty of measurement result participation in interlaboratory comparisons internal quality control . As it is important to have globally harmonised approach to the above mentioned topics, various training and teaching material have been developed at the Europe an level, as to support implementation e.g. by EURACHEM and by TrainMiC. 1. General chemistry

mergeto Chemistry education date February 2012 General chemistry sometimes called gen chem for short is a course often taught at the high school and introductory university level. It is intended to serve as a broad introduction to a variety of concepts in chemistry and is widely taught. At the university level, it is also sometimes used as a weed out course for disciplines sometimes related, sometimes not which are perceived to require a high level of intellectual rigor or large course loads. It is also one of the few chemistry courses in most universities that does not explicitly explore a particular discipline such as organic chemistry or analytical chemistry . General chemistry courses typically introduce concepts such as stoichiometry , prediction of reaction products, thermodynamics , nuclear chemistry , electrochemistry , chemical kinetics , and many of the rudiments of physical chemistry . Though the list of subjects covered is typically broad, leading some to criticize both the class and the discipline as encouraging memorization, most general chemistry courses are firmly grounded in several fundamental physical rules for which the primary challenge is understanding when the rules are applicable.
