Refimprove date January 2008 Cosmic ancestry is a hypothesis of the origin of life on Earth, based on the panspermia views of Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramasinghe and further developed by Brig Klyce. It incorporates strong panspermia, the Gaia hypothesis and the premise that life has no primary origin. History Hoyle was a long standing advocate of strong panspermia. He claimed with Wickramasinghe that spectral analysis of interstellar dust indicated that large organic molecules and even bacterial spores occur in space. ref F. Hoyle and C. Wickramasinghe. Very little is known for certain of the Ancestry of the Godwins . Even the Vita dwardi Regis Life of Edward the Confessor , commissioned by his wife Edith of Wessex Edith , who was Godwin, Earl of Wessex Godwin s daughter, is surprisingly silent on the subject. orphan date February 2009 Unreferenced date November 2008 The Rule of 1 1000 common ancestry is a criterion used to create meaningful family groupings. It was first adopted by Lawrence Kestenbaum to determine which individuals should be included with specific political families on the Political Graveyard website. The rule can be made applicable to other genealogy projects. Definition The rule states that only persons sharing 1 1000 common ancestry should be grouped together as an extended family. Application For lineal ancestors, this can be approximated by 10th degree consanguinity . The reason this is approximate, and not exact, is that common ancestry is halved every time the degree of consanguinity is increased by one. For example the degree of consanguinity of a parent is one. This means that a parent provides 1 2 1 or 1 2 of a persons ancestry the other parent provides the other half . A 7th great grandparent has a 9th degree consanguinity, and therefore providing 1 2 9 or 1 512 common ancestry. An 8th great grandparent provides 1 1024 common ancestry which is as close as one can come to 1 1000, and so this is the cutoff used. For collateral relatives, 1 1000 common ancestry can be approximated by 10th degree consanguinity for relationships derived through half siblings and 11th degree consanguinity for relationships derived through full siblings. For example, siblings share 100 common ancestry, as they share 2 common parents 1 2 1 1 2 1 1 . Half siblings share 50 common ancestry. 8th great aunt uncles can also be called 7th great grand aunt uncles 1st cousins 7x removed 2nd cousins 5x removed 3rd cousins 3x removed and 4th cousins once removed are all at the 1 1024th common ancestry levels, and therefore used as the cutoffs. Complicating factors such as pedigree collapse can increase the percentage of common ancestry to a higher number than it would be otherwise ... The Family tree ancestry of the List of monarchs of Wessex Kings of Wessex has long attracted historians interest because the List of English monarchs monarchs of England trace their lineage from them. Yet scholarly analysis suggests the early part of it is largely an invention of the 8th and 9th centuries. Anglo Saxon genealogies main Anglo Saxon Genealogies The Anglo Saxons, uniquely among the early Germanic peoples , preserved royal genealogies. ref Sisam, p. 287 ref Bede , in his Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum , completed in 731, includes pedigrees for the List of monarchs of Kent kings of Kent and of the List of monarchs of East Anglia East Angles , tracing the former back to the 5th century warlord Hengist and both back to the Germanic god W den Woden . ref Sisam, pp. 288 ref An Anglian collection of royal genealogies also survives, the earliest version sometimes called Vespasian or simply V containing a list of bishops that ends in the year 812. This collection provides pedigrees for Deira , Bernicia , Mercia , Kingdom of Lindsey Lindsey , Kent and East Anglia, tracing all from Woden , made the son of an otherwise unknown Frealaf. ref Sisam, pp. 287 290 ref The same pedigrees, in both text and tablular form, are included in some copies of the Historia Brittonum , an older body of tradition compiled or significantly retouched by Nennius in the early 9th century. These apparently share a common late 8th century source with the Anglian collection. ref Sisam, pp. 292 294 ref Two other manuscripts from the 10th century called CCCC and Tiberius, or simply C and T also preserve the Anglian collection but include an addition a pedigree for King Ine of Wessex Ine of Wessex that traces his ancestry from Cerdic , the semi legendary founder of the Wessex state, and hence from Woden. ref Sisam, pp. 290 292 ref This addition probably reflects the growing influence of Wessex under Egbert of Wessex Ecgbert , whose family claimed descent from a brother of Ine. ref Sisam ... more details
