Orphan date February 2009 File Madrid M4.jpg thumb Gene Simmons axe bass at the Hard Rock in Seattle, Washington The axe bass is a bass guitar which is visually designed in similarity to that of an axe . This design is though rare highly prized among bass players usually in hard rock and Heavy metal music heavy metal music. Some electric guitars have also sported the axe design though they are moderately popular and sometimes discredited. Since its creation the axe bass has been highly desired, very expensive, and a very rare prize among guitar shops and music stores. Origin Rock legend Gene Simmons is to be credited with the axe design. In 1978 Gene was searching for a new bass guitar that would either blend in or stand out from his garish make up and costume, would be a good trademark, and would show his philosophy of how a bass should be handled like a weapon. After garnering enough wealth from touring with his band Kiss band KISS , Gene went to renowned luthier Steve Carr to build the first prototype of the axe bass and then the popular bass itself. Since then the axe bass has been a running trademark for KISS. 1. Axe throwing

File Lexington Barbecue Festival lumberjack 1.jpg thumb Axe throwing Lexington Barbecue Festival Axe throwing is an event in most lumberjack competitions, such as the Lumberjack World Championship in Hayward, Wisconsin . Rules The target is thirty six inches wide, consisting of five rings that are each four inches wide. The outside ring is worth one point, the next one in is worth two, then three, then four and finally the bullseye is worth five points. The axe is scored for the value of the outer most ring that it is touching. Each player gets five throws in a game for a maximum score of 25. This perfect score is common in practice, but rare in competitions due to the pressure. Citation needed date June 2008 Players throw from a line usually placed 6 meters 20  feet back, but at least one association conducts competitions from 15 and 30 foot distances. Championship axe thrower Jeff Runge has perfected the bounce throw at a 2005 Axe throwing championship in Scottsdale, Arizona .
