Allan Jackson was an United States American radio broadcaster. He was the head anchor at CBS Radio News in New York City. Jackson began his 33 year career during the World War II Second World War , reading the 6 00 PM national evening news then the network s main news program and anchoring coverage of many of the major news headlines of the day. He anchored CBS News s coverage of the D Day invasion on June 6, 1944, of the joining of US and Soviet forces in April 1945, and of V E Day in May of that year. Gary French Dockery 1954 April 15, 1997 , was a police officer in Walden, Tennessee who made world headlines after emerging from a 7 year Persistent vegetative state coma like state and started talking enthusiastically, recognizing friends and recalling events from past years. On September 17, 1988 he was shot in the forehead by a drunken assailant as he responded to a domestic disturbance call. He slipped into what doctors called a persistent vegetative state, unable to communicate except occasionally with eye blinks and groans indicating that part of his brain was still working. But on February 11, 1996 he inexplicably stirred and started talking again nonstop, recognizing old friends, recalling the names of his horses, and recalling camping trips. By the second day he had largely become silent again, as he recovered from lung surgery and a serious bout of pneumonia. He never recovered to the same degree again. A year later, on April 15, 1997, he died at the age of 43 from a blood clot in his lung. The Independent 23 November 1995 ref which is used on the Association of Tennis Professionals ATP and Women s Tennis Association WTA professional tennis tours as an Electronic line judge tennis electronic line judge to help determine whether a serve is in or out. The system, which must be activated by the service line umpire before each serve, projects five or six infra red horizontal beams of light along the court 10 mm above the ground. One beam covers the good short side of the service line and others cover the fault long side. If a served ball hits the first beam, the other beams are turned off, while a long serve will break one of the other beams. A long serve is indicated by an audible signal. Obvious long serves that go beyond Cyclops beams are called by the service line umpire. The system is tuned before and during each tournament by a representative of the company which rents the system. This representative stays through the tournament and confers with tournament officials afterwards to determine any problems which may have arisen.
