  1. Beta bulge

A beta bulge is a localized disruption of the regular hydrogen bond ing of a beta sheet , usually by inserting a residue with alpha helix helical dihedral angle s into one or both hydrogen bond H bonded strands. Types bulges can be grouped according to their length of the disruption, the number of residues inserted into each strand, whether the disrupted strands are parallel or antiparallel and by their dihedral angle s which controls the placement of their side chains . Effects on structure At the level of the backbone structure, bulges can cause a simple aneurysm of the sheet, e.g., the bulge in the long hairpin of ribonuclease A residues 88 91 . A bulge can also cause a sheet to fold over and cross itself, e.g., when two residues with left handed and right handed helical dihedral angle s are inserted opposite to each other in a hairpin, as occurs at Met9 and Asn16 in pseudoazurin PDB accession code 1PAZ . Effect on Functionality of Proteins Bulges play an important role in affecting the functionality of proteins in which they are conserved. The most basic function of Bulges is to accommodate an extra residue, that has been added due to mutation etc., while still maintaining the bonding pattern and thus the overall architecture of the protein. In specific cases like the Immunoglobulin family proteins, these Bulges are conserved and help in dimerization of the Ig domains. They have found to be of functional importance in the protein DHFR Di Hydro Folate Reductase and SOD Super Oxide Dismutase where the loops, containing the bulges, help to enclose the active site. 1. Earth bulge

Earth bulge is a term used in telecommunication s. It refers to the circular segment of earth profile which blocks off long distance communications. Distance to horizon File Earthbulge.jpg frame R is the radius of the Earth, h is the height of the transmitter exaggerated , d is the line of sight distance Assuming a perfect sphere with no terrain irregularity, the distance to horizon from a high altitude Transmitter station transmitter ie., line of sight can readily be calculated. Line of sight distance d of this station is given by the Pythagorean theorem math d 2 R h 2 R 2 2 cdot R cdot h h 2 math Since the altitude of the station is much less than the radius of the Earth, math d approx sqrt 2 cdot R cdot h math The mean radius of the earth is about convert 6378 km . 1. Equatorial bulge

One source article date August 2008 An equatorial bulge is a difference between the equatorial and polar diameter s of a planet, due to the centrifugal force of its rotation . A rotating body tends to form an oblate spheroid rather than a sphere . The Earth has an equatorial bulge of convert 42.72 km mi abbr on that is, its diameter measured across the equatorial plane convert 12756.28 km mi abbr on is 42.72  km more than that measured between the poles convert 12713.56 km mi abbr on in other words, anyone standing at sea level on either pole may be 21.36  km closer to the Inner core earth s centrepoint than if standing at sea level on the equator. To get the Earth s mean radius, these two radii must be averaged. cn date October 2011 An often cited result of Earth s equatorial bulge is that the highest point on Earth, measured from the center outwards, is the peak of Mount Chimborazo volcano Chimborazo in Ecuador, rather than Mount Everest . 1. Axis & Allies: Battle of the Bulge

Axis & Allies Battle of the Bulge is a board game which depicts the Battle of the Bulge , the German s last ditch offensive of World War II . It is similar to Axis & Allies D Day in that the game is played on a tactical rather than strategic level, although the gameplay is radically different from D Day or any other previous Axis and Allies game. It is designed by Larry Harris game designer Larry Harris , and published by Avalon Hill . Objective A&A Battle of the Bulge is played between two players one commanding the Germans and the other the Allied forces. Unlike previous Axis & Allies games, where American and British forces are controlled by different players, the Allied player controls both American and British forces, due to the small numbers of British forces represented. American and British forces are identical in this game, and the different colors are used solely for historical accuracy. Battle of the Bulge is played on a hexagonal grid, with the eastern parts of the board representing Germany and the large majority representing Belgium , although Antwerp , the Germans eventual objective, is not represented on the map. The objective of Battle of the Bulge is for the Germans to acquire 24 Victory Points, or, in the Allies case, to prevent Germany from acquiring 24 points at the end of eight turns of play. This objective was set at 24 points to reflect the Germans actual progression in World War II, which would have been worth the equivalent of 23 points. Thus, Germany ... 1. Battle of the Bulge order of battle

Campaignbox Battle of the Bulge This is the order of battle of German and Allied forces during the Battle of the Bulge . u Caveat u This Battle lasted more than a month, with assignments in considerable flux. Any hierarchy of unit within Corps within Army within Army Group is inherently a snapshot of a single moment in that flux. The hierarchy given here is at a moment nearly at the end of the Battle. To fully understand the hierarchy at any given moment in the Battle, you must not rely on this page alone. u For example u , the hierarchy here places the U. S. 7th Armored Division in XVIII Corps in U. S. First Army in 12th Army Group. However, when the German attack began on 16 December 1944, the alignment of U. S. 7th Armored Division was XIII Corps, U. S. Ninth Army, 12th Army Group . Later that day, the alignment became VIII Corps, U. S. First Army, 12th Army Group . On 20 December, the alignment became XVIII Corps, U. S. First Army, 12th Army Group and on the same day XVIII Corps, U. S. First Army, 21st Army Group .
