History As a result of the Cold War and with the expansion of a North American continental air defence system, Ramore was selected as a site for a United States Air Force USAF radar station, one of the many that would make up the Pinetree Line of Ground Control Intercept GCI radar sites. Construction on the Ramore base began in 1950 and was completed by 1953. The base was manned by members of the USAF s Air Defense Command ADC 912th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron , being known as Ramore Air Station.     Unreferenced date February 2007 Canadian Forces Station Mill Cove CFS Mill Cove is a former Canadian Forces Station and currently a naval radio station in Nova Scotia operated by the Canadian Forces . History CFS Mill Cove was established in 1967 on the Aspotogan Peninsula 50  km west of City of Halifax Halifax . The station replaced NRS Albro Lake which was the primary receiving station for naval communications on the Atlantic coast. Encroaching urban development in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Dartmouth was creating interference with NRS Albro Lake reception. The actual unit HMC NRS Albro Lake was redesignated CFS Mill Cove at the time that the Albro Lake facility was relocated. The primary transmitting station at NRS Newport Corner , 50  km northwest of Halifax in the rural farming hamlet of Brooklyn, Hants County, Nova Scotia Brooklyn was maintained and the naval radio station functioned as a detachment of CFS Mill Cove. While the receiving antenna site at Mill Cove was located in the middle of the Aspotogan Peninsula, the station s headquarters and housing area was located on the shore of St. Margarets Bay, Nova Scotia St. Margarets Bay in the fishing hamlet of Mill Cove, Nova Scotia Mill Cove .     Canadian Forces Station Val d Or CFS Val d Or was a Canadian Forces Station in Val d Or , Quebec . RCAF Station Val d Or The Royal Canadian Air Force established RCAF Station Val d Or in 1954 as a fighter interceptor base intended to protect Montreal and the St. Lawrence River valley and Great Lakes basin against Soviet Union Soviet bomber aircraft. The airfield was topped with asphalt by the mid 1950s as RCAF Station Val d Or became a key component in NORAD . During the early 1960s, RCAF Station Val d Or was considered as the site for one of the Regional Emergency Government Headquarters REGHQs , commonly known as a Diefenbunker , but this was put at CFB Valcartier instead.     Unreferenced date October 2009 Canadian Forces Station Lac St. Denis also CFS Lac St. Denis is a former Canadian Forces Station that was located by Lac St. Denis, 60 miles north of Montreal in the Laurentian Mountains . Construction The base, at 1674 feet above sea level, was 315 feet higher in elevation than the town one mile away. Lac St. Denis was midway between Morin Heights, Quebec Morin Heights and Saint Adolphe d Howard, Quebec St. Adolphe d Howard on highway 329. The radar station Site C 2, callsign Crystal was one of the oldest of the Pinetree Line sites. Construction had begun in 1949. During this time, there was a veil of secrecy imposed by the RCAF as to the real reason for the site. This sparked rumors and speculation among the local inhabitants, including one that the RCAF was building air defence weapons in a huge underground hangar. RCAF Station Lac St. Joseph An advance party arrived to open up No. 202 RCAF Radio Station Lac St. Joseph, as it was known in March 1952. It officially opened the following month, and was fully operational by July of the same year. On September 15, 1952, 1 AC&W Squadron transferred its headquarters from RCAF Station St Hubert RCAF Station St. Hubert to Lac St. Denis.
