No footnotes date February 2008 Image comb honey.jpg thumb Comb honey production using Ross Round style equipment center comb is complete, right in progress Comb honey is honey , intended for consumption, which still contains pieces of the hexagonal shaped beeswax cells of the honeycomb . Before the invention of the honey extractor almost all honey produced was in the form of comb honey. Today, most honey is produced for extraction but comb honey remains popular among consumers both for eating as is and for combining with extracted honey to make Chunk Honey. Hobbyists and sideliners can best develop their beekeeping skills by producing comb honey, which they can easily sell for several times its value as extracted honey. Comb honey production is more suitable for areas with a prolonged honeyflow from dutch clover , alsike , and yellow clover . Wooded areas are not very suitable for comb honey production, as bees tend to collect much propolis , which makes the harvesting of comb honey much more difficult. This problem has been largely circumvented with the adoption of specialized frames which prevent accumulation of propolis on saleable units. Hive management Image ross round hive.jpg thumb Beehive with Ross Round style comb honey super and frames exposed Populous honey bee colonies are usually reduced to single hive body hive bodies at the beginning of the honeyflow when one or more comb honey supers are added. Orphan date February 2009 update date November 2010 An Astro comb is a new observational tool in astronomy which promises to increase the precision of existing spectrograph s by nearly a hundredfold. The first astro comb will be installed in 2009 or 2010 on the William Herschel Telescope on the Canary Islands . The device was developed by a team led Chih Hao Li of Harvard University . The astro comb uses a pulsed laser to filter starlight before feeding the signal into a spectrograph. It has the potential to revolutionise astrophysical spectroscopy. The increased sensitivity could aid in the search for extrasolar Earth like planets. unreferenced date August 2009 mergeto Frequency comb discuss Talk Comb generator Merge with Frequency Comb? date August 2009 A comb generator is a signal generator that produces multiple harmonic s of its input signal. The appearance of the output at the spectrum analyzer screen, resembling teeth of a comb , gave the device its name. Comb generators find wide range of uses in microwave technology. E.g., synchronous signals in wide frequency bandwidth can be produced by a comb generator. The most common use is in broadband frequency synthesizer s, where the high frequency signals act as stable references correlated to the lower energy references the outputs can be used directly, or to synchronize phase locked loop oscillator s. It may be also used to generate a complete set of substitution channels for testing, each of which carries the same baseband audio and video signal. Comb generators are also used in radio frequency interference RFI testing of consumer electronics , where their output is used as a simulated radio frequency RF emissions, as it is a stable broadband noise source with repeatable output. An optical comb generator can be used as generators of terahertz radiation . Internally, it is a nonlinear optics resonant electro optic modulator , with the capability of generating hundreds of sideband s with total span of at least 3 terahertz limited by the optical dispersion of the lithium niobate crystal and frequency spacing of 17  GHz. Other construction can be based on erbium doped fiber laser or Ti sapphire laser often in combination with carrier envelope offset control . Comb drives capacitive actuators , often used linear actuators that utilize electrostatic forces that act between two electrically conductive combs. Comb drive actuators typically operate at the micro or nanometer scale and are generally manufactured by bulk micromachining or surface micromachining a silicon wafer substrate. The attractive electrostatic forces are created when a voltage is applied between the static and moving combs causing them to be drawn together. The force developed by the actuator is proportional to the change in capacitance between the two combs, increasing with driving voltage, the number of comb teeth, and the gap between the teeth. The combs are arranged so that they never touch because then there would be no voltage difference . Typically the teeth are arranged so that they can slide past one another until each tooth occupies the slot in the opposite comb. Restoring spring device springs , lever s, and crankshaft s can be added if the motor s linear operation is to be converted to rotation or other motions. Image DiracComb.png thumb 300px A Dirac comb is an infinite series of Dirac delta function s spaced at intervals of T In mathematics , a Dirac comb also known as an impulse train and sampling function in electrical engineering is a periodic function periodic Schwartz distribution constructed from Dirac delta function s math Delta T t stackrel mathrm def sum k infty infty delta t k T math for some given period T . Some authors, notably Ronald N. Bracewell Bracewell as well as some textbook authors in electrical engineering and circuit theory, refer to it as the Shah function possibly because its graph resembles the shape of the Cyrillic script Cyrillic letter sha . Because the Dirac comb function is periodic, it can be represented as a Fourier series math Delta T t frac 1 T sum n infty infty e i 2 pi n t T . math Scaling The scaling property of the Dirac comb follows from the properties of the Dirac delta function . Since math delta t a a delta t , math , it follows that math Delta T t a a , Delta aT t math Fourier series It is clear that sub T sub t is periodic with period T . That is math Delta T t T Delta T t , math for all t . The complex Fourier series for such a periodic function is math Delta T t sum n infty infty c n e i 2 pi n t T math where the Fourier coefficients, c ...
