- Gastrovascular cavity
Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Gastro vascular cavity , as the name indicates, functions in both digestion and the distribution of nutrients and particles to all parts of the body. Organisms belonging to two major phyla, the Cnidaria and the Platyhelminthes , possess gastrovascular cavities. The radially symmetrical cnidarians have a sac like body in two distinct layers, the epidermis and gastrodermis, with a jellylike layer called the mesoglea between. Extracellular digestion takes place within the central cavity of the sac like body. This cavity has only one opening to the outside and, in most cnidarians, that is surrounded by tentacle s which serve to capture prey. Example Digestion in hydra occurs in gastrovascular cavity. - Isomaltase
Isomaltase is an enzyme that breaks the bonds linking saccharide s, which cannot be broken by amylase or maltase . It digests polysaccharides at the alpha 1 6 linkages. Its substrate, alpha limit dextrin, is a product of amylopectin digestion that retains its 1 6 linkage its alpha 1 4 linkages having already been broken down by amylase . The product of the enzymatic digestion of alpha limit dextrin by isomaltase is maltose . Isomaltase helps amylase to digest alpha limit dextrin to produce maltose. - Liquivore
Orphan date February 2009 Liquivores are animals that liquify their food using digestive enzymes . Examples of liquivores are spiders and flies . Flies Flies use an oral tube to release their digestive juices onto their meal to transform it to a soup that is digestible. The fly inserts its proboscis which it can suck up as the insect feasts. Spiders Spiders wrap their prey around in silk and then waits for it to suffocate. The spider then bites into the wrapped victim and inserts enzymes that digest the victim and the spider sucks the juices out of the meal. - Heterotrophic nutrition
Heterotrophic nutrition is nutrition obtained by digesting organic compounds. Animals, fungi, many prokaryotes and protoctists are unable to synthesize organic compounds to use as food. They are called heterotroph s. Heterotrophic organisms have to acquire and take in all the organic substances they need to survive. ref http www.int res.com articles meps 22 m022p101.pdf Heterotrophic nutrition and control of bacterial density ref All heterotrophs except blood and gut parasites have to convert solid food into soluble compounds capable of being absorbed digestion . When the soluble products of digestion are absorbed they are distributed to various parts of the organism where complex materials assimilation or broken down for the release of energy respiration . All heterotrophs depend on autotrophs for their nutrition. Heterotrophic plants has only 4 types The three main types of heterotrophic nutrition are Holozoic nutrition Complex food is taken into a specialist digestive system and broken down into small pieces to be absorbed. This consists of 5 stages, ingestion , digestion , absorption , assimilation biology assimilation and egestion . - Thermophilic digester
A thermophilic digester or thermophilic biodigester is a kind of biodigester that operates in temperatures above 50 C producing biogas . It has some advantages it does not need agitation and is faster in fermentation than a mesophilic digester . In fact, it can be as much as six to ten times faster than a normal biodigester. The problem is that for use in this biodigester, the source must enter at high temperature. Vinasse is produced at more than 70 C and can be used in this kind of biodigester. For each unit of volume of ethanol, about eight units of vinasse are produced. In Brazil, this kind of biodigester is used to process vinasse as a cheap source of methane . A singapore based company, Biomax Technologies Pte Ltd, has invented and patented a system to convert organic waste into pure organic fertilizer through a Thermophilic digestion. Its system is named as Biomax Rapid Thermophilic Digestion System and the process takes just 24 hours.
