Nebraska scored the only points of the 1st quarter, when quarterback Gerry Gdowski threw a 9 yard touchdown pass to Morgan Gregory for an early 7-0 lead, with 11:19 left in the quarter. Florida State got on the board in the second quarter following a 14 yard touchdown pass from Peter Tom Willis to wide receiver Terry Anthony, tying the game at 7 with 13:42 left in the second quarter. Nebraska's Chris Drennan responded with a 39 yard field goal, giving the Huskers a 10-7 lead with 12:15 left in the half. Peter Tom Willis connected with wide receiver Reggie Johnson for a 5 yard touchdown pass, and a 14-10 Seminole lead with 6:55 left in the half. He later connected with Dexter Carter for a 10 yard touchdown pass with 24 seconds left in the half, as the Seminoles took a 21-10 lead into the locker room. With 6 minutes left in the third quarter, Paul Moore scored on a 1 yard touchdown run. A blocked extra point left the score at 28-10. With 3:37 left in the quarter, Tom Willis threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game, an 8 yard strike to Reggie Johnson, widening the gap to 34-10. With 2 seconds left in the quarter, Tom Willis threw a 24 yard touchdown pass to Terry Anthony, making the score 41-10. In the second and third quarters, Florida State had outscored Nebraska 41-3.
