The A6 motorway, an Autobahn in Switzerland, connects Biel / Bienne over Bern with Thun. The A6 is located entirely within the Canton of Berne and, in particular, has a great regional significance, so only the section of Bern in the direction Berner Oberland is part of the Swiss national road system.

Route

The core of today's A6 is the national road N6, which begins near Bern Wankdorf as a diversion from the A1 and goes through Muri near Bern, and doing the so-called branching at Lattigen where they cross in the N8/A8 passes. The N8 continues from Lattigen with the numbering of exits/branches, where the highway is signposted to Spiez (Kander road junction) as A6. Thus there are two branches in A6 to Spiez and the N6, which really takes off Lattigen to Wimmis has there again a 2nd exit, forming the section of the branch here, A6b. The N6 runs the entire length as a highway. Earlier, there had been a plan to combine the A6 to continue through the Simmental and then with the Ravil tunnel in the Canton of Valais, but this plan was definitely abandoned.

No national road sections are in the Simmeflue Tunnel of A6b at Wimmis and the A6 between Biel / Bienne and Sch nb hl. The Simmeflue tunnel is a cantonal car road, with the tunnel singular and not divided. The earlier cantonal Sch nb hl highway between North and Lyss is now marked as A6. The same applies to the cantonal non-divided road from North Lyss and Biel / Bienne. The motor road now leads into the town of Biel, but with the development of A5 gets connected to them. This is intended to establish connection, to the west, of today's port Br ggmoos into the branch.
