APU International School is an independent, coeducational university preparatory day school with two campuses and boarding facilities located in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam. History The school opened in late 2004,[1] with support from tertiary institutions in the United States.[2][3] It offers K-12 education to students in Vietnam and serves as a pathway to university education in the United States. Top graduates at APU have gone on to win generous scholarships from universities in the United States. Annually, the valedictorian has been awarded full scholarships from APU affiliate institutions, such as Roger Willliams, University of Missouri - Kansas City, and Central Washington University. APU later added a primary school campus in Ho Chi Minh City in late 2007.[4] The school is privately owned and non-sectarian. APU is authorized to offer the SAT[5] and the ACT standardized exams. Curriculum The medium of instruction is in English, although Vietnamese local nationals are required to take some Vietnamese courses that align with standards set by the Ministry of Education and Training. [6] There is also a support program offered for early state English language learners. and APU offers both AP college credit courses as well as English language development programs. [7] The school follows an American curriculum model, that includes Advanced Placement courses, blended learning, and an advanced college concurrent enrollment program that gives students an alternative opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school. The faculty are predominantly American with strong academic credentials along with faculty from around the world. Many clubs and organizations exist at APU and students also participate in community service programs in the region. References External links
