Achilles Liarmakopoulos (born August 29, 1985) is a Greek trombonist. Biography Achilles Liarmakopoulos, native of Greece, plays trombone in Canadian Brass. As a soloist, he is dedicated to an expanding, attractive repertoire of new pieces and important works revived from the archives as well as standard repertoire. He has premiered many pieces from emerging composers who have written specifically for him. He has performed as a soloist at the Walt Disney Hall as the Grand Prize Winner of the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition, judged by members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, he has given solo recitals to U.S.A, China, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Finland and Greece and he has performed as a member of many orchestras worldwide. He holds degrees from the Yale University Yale School of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory. At each institution, all of his studies have been financially supported by merit-based scholarships, as well as Bok Foundation and Milton L. Rock Annual Fellowships, and scholarships from the Henry & Lucy Moses Fund Inc., Alexandros S. Onassis Foundation and the Greek State Scholarship Foundation. Yale University awarded him with the prestigious Philip Francis Nelson Prize which is given for outstanding musicianship and entrepreneurial spirit. Mr. Liarmakopoulos has been awarded prizes in many prestigious competitions including the II Christian Lindberg International Competition, Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe (YMFE), the International Trombone Festivals Robert Marsteller/Conn-Selmer , Solo , and Larry Wiehe , among others His debut solo album will be released by Naxos in 2011. Premieres Liarmakopoulos is also a strong supporter for new music and new works for trombone and has premiered many pieces from new composers.
