Ajay Singh

Ajay Singh is the present High Commissioner of India to Fiji, having been appointed to this position on 16 December 2004, succeeding Professor I.S. Chauhan.[1]

Family's link to Fiji

Singh has continued his family's link to Fiji. His great grandparents, Ram Chander and Padam Kaur, came to Fiji in 1885 as indentured labourers and his grandfather, Bere Singh, was born in Rakiraki. Bere Singh returned to India, in 1905, with his parents but after his education came back to Fiji to serve in the Fiji colonial civil service for 25 years. Bere Singh's son and Ajay Singh's father Bhagwan Singh was born in India in 1916 and came to Fiji as High Commissioner of India to Fiji, Tonga, Nauru and other South Pacific countries from 1971 to 1976. Ajay Singh also lived in Suva at that time, worked as a journalist at the Fiji Times and married a Fiji Indian woman.He is a man of great personality.

His accomplishments

He was minister of state for railways in the Indian government in 1989 and 1990. On 14 July 2005, he was also appointed as the High Commissioner of India to the Government of Tuvalu.[2]
