emc linux cnc servo quadrature encoders dc motor parallel port settings control loop PID
Duration: 8:04
Description: emc linux cnc servo quadrature encoders dc motor parallel port settings control loop PID. This week i made my first foray into emc servo controls, I have used emc for a couple of years now with stepper drives (but i am still really a newbie). Basically I bought a robot arm on ebay for 10bucks and it has dc servo motors with HEDS9100 quadrature encoders. So I bought an L298 dc motor driver for 10bucks and have made initial tests to check the etch-servo control configuration works with this setup. Sorry very lame supposed "tutorial" of what I have been doing in emc linux this week, it is unscripted and unrehearsed so please excuse the mistakes and babbling. It does not really explain very much at all as most of the things i hoped to cover disappeared from my head when i turned the camera on. I don't have time to waste doing a decent job so this is all you will get for free. I may do another vid explaining emc servo PID as i understand it (i dont really understand it properly yet), and full configuration of the robot arm once I have bought some more L298 drivers. Hope this is of use to someone, but i doubt it, please don't blame me for wasting your time.

Description: Using spindle-synchronised offsets to the cross-slide position to bore a hexagonal hole. This uses EMC2 software (www.linuxcnc.org) with a custom HAL component that interpolates an offset from a table based on the spindle encoder position, then adds that to the X-axis motor position. My lathe has an ungeared head and won't actually run slowly enough to allow the X-axis stepper to keep up, so I am hand-cranking the spindle from the back (which is why the spindle speed is not very constant)
